Helen Ward’s students perform at recital

Becky Evans, Brexlee Kellum, Daisy Huckaby, Lafe Huckaby, Seth Huckaby, Jens Huckaby

A piano recital featuring the students of Helen Ward and Daisy Huckaby was held on Sunday, June 7, in the 2nd Ward Building. Daisy’s students, Brexlee Kellum and Becky Evans, each performed a duet with their teacher. Brexlee, who has taken lessons for just one month, played “Yankee Doodle,” and Becky, who has taken lessons for two months, played “Banjo Picker.”

Helen’s students, all from the Huckaby family, each performed three numbers of their own choosing.  Lafe began his part of the program with a rendition of “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee” and then performed the theme from Dvorak’s “New World Symphony” and “Canoeing in the Moonlight.” Seth performed two classical piano solos, “Humoresque” and “Liebestraum,” plus “Tropical Island.”

Daisy honored her brother Jens, who will be leaving soon on a mission to Paris, with “Portrait of Paris.” She also performed a very difficult number in six sharps, “To Spring,” and two duets with her teacher, Halan Ward. Jens concluded the program with Chanson, “ “Song of India,“ and a complicated jazz piano number, “A Town with an Ocean View.”
