Memorial Day
Memorial Day this year was a beautiful, bright and sunny day. Last week we ran down the program that was presented at the Malad City Cemetery, where speaker Mark Howard honored the memories of those service members who have passed on. While in the modern era Memorial Day has more broadly become a remembrance of all who have passed, its original creation was in honor of soldiers who died during the Civil War. Three gun volleys were performed around the county at the various cemeteries to honor members of the armed services who were interred there, as well as those from St. John, Cherry Creek, Samaria, and other locations around Oneida that may be buried elsewhere. As always, it was a somber and beautiful service, accompanied by taps.
