Museum opens Saturday
The museum is featuring items from US history, with a focus on military service for the America 250 year celebration. The museum opens this weekend.
The Oneida Pioneer Museum will hold its annual Grand Opening and Bake Sale on Saturday, May 23, 2026. The Bake Sale, a fund raiser for the Museum, will be from noon to 2:00 p.m., and the Museum will be open from noon until 5:00 p.m. that day.
The Museum will be open on Memorial Day from 11:00 – 5:00. Regular hours will begin on Tuesday, May 26. The Museum is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day from 1:00 – 5:00 Tuesdays through Saturdays. Appointments can be made for visits at other times by contacting Board members.
This year the Museum will feature displays of items related to the history of the United States as part of the America 250 celebration. Military uniforms, flags, and pictures of Oneida County veterans will be on display in the windows and throughout the Museum. For example, the daughters of W. Griff Jenkins recently donated to the Museum a portrait of their father when he was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. Painted by a Japanese artist, Griff sent it home as a Christmas gift for his parents. Griff’s wife, Jeanne, donated his West Point great coat to the Museum a few years ago.
Visitors will be greeted by Hostess Paige Robbins Tavoian or Host Brent Bowen this summer. Museum Board members will serve as volunteer hosts or hostesses as needed. Board members are Jean Thomas, Bill Lewis, Nicole Smith, Julie Willie, Janice Vaughan, Joan Hawkins, Dotty Evanson, Sharon Harris, David Gilgen, Marvin Hess, Lorna Brignone, Sarah Robbins, and Hailey Sweeten.
Everyone is invited to visit Malad’s local repository of items important to the history of Oneida County. Admission to the Museum is free. Even if you have visited the Museum in the past, come again and see new artifacts and new displays. Stop by for the bake sale and stay to view new displays at your Oneida Pioneer Museum.
