Grandparents Only-Not recommended for parents or kids...

Jun 04, 2026 12:22PM ● By Gramma Dot

I’ve learned a few things over seven decades of life: beginnings and endings are important and if they are good, what happens in the middle takes care of itself. A good morning makes for a good day and a reminder every night of blessings, keeps one thinking about blessings. When the grandkids are around, we try to start on a good note and end with a good thought. Hence, the “Happy Plate” song which is original and sung to the tune of Popcorn Popping and “To Be Born Welsh” which is traditional and attributed to Brian Harris (1967).

Happy Plate Song

(Popcorn Popping tune)

“I woke up this morning and what did I see?

A Happy Plate looking up at me.

Breakfast had brought me such a nice surprise,

A Happy Plate right before my eyes!

My sunny side eggs seemed to jiggle with glee,

My cinnamon toast shouted out, ’Whoopee!’

Grandma loves me so, this day will be great,

All because it started on a Happy Plate!”

And to end the day…

“To be born Welsh is to be born
privileged,

Not with a silver spoon in your mouth,

But with music in your heart, and poetry in your soul.”

Now, you need to find your own beginnings and endings, and you’ll know what works for you when you stop to think about it. As Grandparents, anything we can do to help our grandkids navigate life in a positive way is worth the effort. Make it quick, make it fun and make a
Good Life!
