Evening of the Arts April 9
Malad City has no art gallery or venue where local artists can display their creative works. Therefore, the 13th annual Evening of the Arts is an opportunity for local adult and student artists to display their works and for families, friends, and community members to enjoy seeing those works. Everyone is invited to view the talents of a few of Oneida County’s many artists on Thursday, April 9, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Oneida County Event Center at the Fairgrounds. Admission to the Evening of the Arts is FREE.
Besides visual arts, the musical arts of the Malad High School Chamber Choir will be on display as the Choir performs about 6:30. The Choir, whose members were all selected by an audition process, will perform under the baton of Foster Garrett with Lorna Brignone at the piano.
Culinary arts will be enjoyed by attendees when they grab a bag of flavored popcorn prepared by the students in the Malad High School culinary arts program, taught by Shantel Tavoian.
Malad Elementary School 4th and 5th grade students have been working very hard on their art projects for the Evening of the Arts. This is art specialist Beth Hubbard’s first year at the school.
The art works of Malad Middle and High School art students have been created under the direction of Krystal Tavoian Fonnesbeck, the art teacher for both schools. A variety of media have been used by these students on their unique works of art.
Adult artists whose works will be featured at the Evening of the Arts are Lloyd Bush (turquoise jewelry), Krystal Fonnesbeck (oil and watercolor painting), Nathan Maughan (metal work), Katie Tapp (acrylic painting), and Lisa Willie (photography). All of these artists have won awards for their works at the Oneida County Fair.
Greeting cards featuring photographs of local scenes by local photographers will be available for purchase during the event.
Live auction items that have been received to date include a decorative metal bell created by Doug Adams, colorful watercolors by Dianne Adams, an oil painting entitled “Solitude and Majesty” by Jerry Camp, a Blackstone Iron Forged 4-burner outdoor griddle donated by Ward’s Ace Hardware, and a Camp Chef Smokepro wood pellet grill donated by Hess Lumber.
Restaurants gift cards, car care products, gardening supplies, sports clothing and equipment, food treats, works of art, and baskets of other practical, beautiful, and unique gifts are among the items to be raffled in the silent auction during the evening. Everyone is invited to come and bid on gifts for themselves or others.
Note that the live auction will be at 7:15 with the silent auction tables closing at 7:00, 7:30, and 7:45.
All proceeds from the Evening of the Arts will go toward the remodeling and upgrading of patient rooms and the purchase of new equipment for our local Hospital. The Evening of the Arts is sponsored by the Nell J. Redfield Memorial Hospital Foundation and is its major fund-raising event.
