Relief Society “Worldwide Gathering of Women”

To celebrate the 184th anniversary of the founding of the Relief Society, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints prepared a videotaped Relief Society Devotional entitled “A Worldwide Gathering of Women.” Although the broadcast is available online, the Malad Stake hosted an evening for sisters to view the broadcast together on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at the Stake Center. Paula Hannah, Malad Stake Relief Society President, was joined by Counselors Kathleen Atkinson and Liz Kent and Secretary Cheryse Hooste in organizing and conducting the meeting.

Members of the General Relief Society Presidency and Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles were the speakers.  Sister Kristen Yee, 2nd Counselor, emphasized that the love of God is for everyone. Because of Christ, we can be strong, able to bear our burdens if we just ask for the help we need. Heavenly Father wants us to ask for help through faith and prayer.

Sister Annette Denis, 1st Counselor, stated that the Light of Christ warms our souls, whether the day is sunny or cloudy. Nothing can separate us from the love of Christ. When we help others, we feel that love.  As the song says, “His eye is on the sparrow, and I know he watches me.”

Sister Camille Johnson, General Relief Society President, noted that nobody is free of adversity, as shown by the story of Hannah in the Old Testament. As sisters in the Relief Society, we can help Jesus Christ by helping others. We have to have faith that His will and His timing are right.

Elder Quentin L. Cook quoted Alma in the Book of Mormon, who emphasized four ways we can help others and ourselves choose righteousness: 1) be humble, 2) be stripped of pride, 3) be stripped of envy, and 4) do not mock or persecute others. In today’s world, too often fame and fortune replace faith and family as the focus of our lives. He told the story of Bathsheba Smith, who was one of the first sisters endowed in the Nauvoo Temple just before embarking on the trek across the Plains.  Everyone will face hardship; how we use faith to handle hardship is the measure of our devotion to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

A short testimony meeting followed the broadcast. Attendees enjoyed cookies made by Shanlynn Nimer at the conclusion of the program.
