School Board Report--December

A short meeting of the Oneida School Board was held on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, after the annual Christmas dinner was served by Iron Door Catering. Chalae Teeples participated remotely.

Ty Price was honored as the School District “Employee of the Month.” (See accompanying article.) The girls’ and boys’ cross-country teams were honored as the 3A State Champions, along with their coaches, Tia Talbot and Tylee Skinner.  Coach Talbot noted that all 16 students on the teams posted personal best times at the State meet.

The Board approved an Early Graduation Request from Bayli Nesbit. She has completed all requirements for high school graduation as well as all requirements for her Associate of Arts degree and Advanced EMT certification.  She plans to earn a medical degree with the goal of becoming an ER doctor.

Administrator Reports

Superintendent Dallan Rupp reported that attendance is remaining steady. The conduit at the ball fields has been installed although the wiring is not yet complete. Thanks to generous donations from Hess Pumice Products and an anonymous donor, all negative school lunch balances have been covered.

Stone School Principal Jeanie Reeder reported that the Christmas play was a success with one performance left. A long-term substitute will be hired for next semester; Mindy Lyon is resigning so she can complete student teaching.  Ms. Reeder suggested that the 4th grade be allowed to remain at Stone School next year due to no new kindergarten students coming next year. She has talked to all the parents of the current 3rd grade students, and most are in favor of their children staying at Stone School next year.  Then there will not be problems with staffing.

Malad Elementary School Principal Sarah McIntyre expressed appreciation to Mr. Grote’s 3rd grade class for donating pajamas to the Village, to Broulim’s for providing bags for the backpack program, to Nell J. Redfield Memorial Hospital for donating throw-up bags to the school, and to Edith’s Collective for donating food to the backpack program

Malad Middle School Principal Josh Smith reported that the Middle School Band and Chorus concert went well with a large crowd in attendance. He also noted that an anonymous donor had brought in a very large assortment of clothing. The students were able to choose clothes that they needed (almost like going shopping).

Malad High School Principal Robert Hannah reported that the High School Band and Chorus concert was excellent. The senior projects were very good this year; Cami Willie is largely responsible for the organization of the projects for the community display.  Over 90% of the high school students are passing all of their classes, which is the highest rate for several years. The 5th District or the State recognized the following coaches for their outstanding work: Caleb Williams, Tia Talbot, Camie Tripp, Bree Adams, and Jeff Snow.  The high school student body raised nearly $600 for Riot Titus, whose father passed away recently.

Board Actions

The Board approved the purchase of a new 84-passenger bus. The purchase price is $207,062, but the State will reimburse the District for 85% of the cost.

The following personnel were approved, pending their passing the State-mandated background check:  Kevin Winsor as Malad High School paraprofessional and Callie Werk as Malad Middle School volunteer cheer coach.

As required by the State Department of Education, the Board reviewed the policy dealing with hazing, harassment, intimidation, bullying, cyber bullying, and menacing.  No changes were made to the current policy.

Three policies were deleted due to being included twice or violating procedures that are already in place under other policies.

Two policies were approved for first reading.  One deals with student health and physical screenings and examinations.  The other was recommended by the special education director. It deals with providing instruction for homebound or hospitalized students who cannot return to school, as determined by medical personnel. The policy requires someone besides a District Employee to be present during homebound instruction.

Eight other policies were approved upon second reading. All of these policies will be listed in the District Policy Manual as posted on the School District website: www.oneidaschooldistrict.org.

The date of the January meeting of the School Board was changed to January 13 due to conflicts for one of the Board members.
