Extension Office Events
The Extension Office is always a busy place, and there are a number of events coming up soon.
On Thursday, November 20, a Smart Shopping—Cooking Matters at the Store class will be held at the Broulim’s location in Malad (170 S Main St) from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The class is presented by University of Idaho FSC Extension Educators Deanna Poulsen and Jennifer Reader.
Topics will include: comparing unit prices to stay out of spending traps; shopping by food groups to stretch your savings; food safety essentials, utilizing nutrition facts labels and de-coding dates, a $10 meal challenge, and more! The class is designed to help you “master the art of budget-friendly grocery shopping!”
Those interested can call the Oneida County Extension Office at (208) 766-2243 for more information and to sign up for the class. The first 10 to register will receive a $10 gift card to Broulim’s to complete the $10 meal challenge.
As Extension Educator Sawyer Fonnesbeck notes, “While this is certainly not the time of year that most pesticides/herbicides are applied, this is a great time to secure a few of the recertification credits needed for your pesticide applicators license. The University of Idaho Extension program will be providing a series of virtual classes in the month of December which will address topics relative to pesticide applicator safety, product changes, and insect identification. Each of these classes will be worth one recertification credit. The link to sign up for these classes is https://marketplace.uidaho.edu/C20272_ustores/web/store_main.jsp?STOREID=53&SINGLESTORE=true . Each class will cost $10. Contact Fonnesbeck at the Extension Office if you have any questions. The dates for these classes are listed on the website.
A team of educators will also be providing a 3 hour training course on December 3rd from 9AM to noon on a variety of pesticide applicator topics. Three recertification credits will be available for those who complete the training. Registration is not required. The link to the VIRTUAL training is listed on the flyer. If you have any questions, please contact Fonnesbeck at the 766-2243 number, or Tom Jacobsen (208-624-3102).
