Malad City Newsletter July 2025

We welcome all visitors to Malad for our July 3, 4, and 5

Independence Day Celebration – “Land That I Love”!

A schedule is on the Malad City website and on the Malad City Facebook page, along with detail of the parade lineup and route.

Don’t forget to bring your chairs and dancing boots for the street dance on the evening of July 5 in front of Malad City Hall, where Rough Stock with our own Harry Sherman will be playing! There will be a watermelon bust held during the street dance.

The Malad City Mayor and Council need the help of our local citizens. We are having vandalism problems at the City Park and Walking Path, particularly with our trees. Through a grant with the United States Forest Service, we were able to hire an arborist, Trevor Robbins, who is treating some of our current trees for disease, trimming, and will help with the planting of approximately 400 new trees in the current park and an expanded north park where the city’s new stormwater drain will be located. As he has been working on trees, Trevor has noticed that someone is using a hatchet or knife and cutting our trees. One small sapling was totally broken off. The city has invested a lot of money in trees at the Malad City Park, the Malad City Cemetery, and on Main Street. Many of the trees were gifted to the city by local citizens through donations. Many were obtained through grant funds, and many the city purchased. Please help us protect our trees.

Another problem we are having is that Trevor is working hard to inventory all the current trees. He is identifying each tree and applying tags or a stake at the tree base that identifies the species. The tags and the stakes are being removed almost as fast as he is placing them.

Go carts and other motorized vehicles have been noticed racing through the trees at the park. And something that many people do not realize, when you park or drive over the roots of a tree, it compacts the earth and could damage the tree. We know that everyone likes to park in the shade, but please do not pull under the trees to park your car.

The City Council is currently drafting a Park Ordinance, which we hope will curtail some of the activities noted above.

The park and walking path are popular gathering spots. As you enjoy our beautiful park, if you notice anyone that is acting suspiciously or maliciously, please call Trevor at 435-890-8465. You can also call the Malad City Office at 208-766-4160, or the Malad City Ordinance Officer, John Christophersen, at 208-317-4463.
