Tarrell Owen Jones

Tarrell Owen Jones slipped peacefully away in his sleep, at home as he’d wished, on April 23, 2025. A devoted father, community member, and a dear friend to so many, he will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Tarrell was born and raised in Malad. Served two tours in Vietnam as a gunship pilot for the US Army and returned to serve further as a flight instructor at Fort Rucker in Alabama. T.O. flew for the Forest Service fighting fire and worked as a crop duster. No small feat in a helicopter. Rounding out his piloting career, he flew LifeFlight out of Pocatello. Again, serving as a lifeline to those in crisis.
Tarrell married Lynn Rich in 1976. Farming, ranching, flying, and raising his family, Tarrell was an ace. His passion and work ethic were infectious, and those around him couldn’t help but try to keep up. T.O. was a rare model not seen these days, and his manner will forever be a treasured memory.
Tarrell has generations of family in Oneida County, and is survived by his two daughters, Tara and Shirlee.
A funeral will be held Friday, May 2, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at the Horsley Funeral Home. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral from 11:00 - 12:00.
