Grandparents Only

Apr 30, 2025 12:23PM ● By Gramma Dot

By definition grandparents are old. I hate to admit it, but when you are responsible for at least two generations younger than yourself you are probably not in your prime.  That was evident last week when the museum board members began contemplating a major shake-up at the museum. Most of the board are grandparent-age.  Gratefully, we do have a few youngsters, but they have families and priorities that outweigh rearranging a building full of “stuff”. We had two major goals: (1) sort all the written documents and books so we know  what we have and can find it; (2) archive “stuff” and move it upstairs creating space downstairs for rotating displays.

Bookshelves had to be moved downstairs and “stuff” had to be archived and moved upstairs. Long story short we needed help. One of the board members suggested calling the high school. There is nothing like child labor if you want something done. I texted Tori Green and sure enough the MHS student council “would love to provide some service.” Lucky us!

They showed up a few days later, which gave us time to figure out what needed to go up and how many bookcases needed to come down, and in less than an hour they did what would have taken us weeks to accomplish. They were happy. Excited to see the third floor. Couldn’t run up and down those stairs fast enough. And flat out made our day.

I really like teenagers, especially Anistyn Tovey, Teagan Daniels, Paige Wilson, McKenzie Leckie, Baylee Owens, Katie Coatney, Brycen Talbot, Zach Richardson, and Hunter Allen.  Just to make sure we include that generation between grandparents and kids, Tori Green and Nicona Smith were helpful, too.

Just a side note, which definitely tagged me as a grandparent. While organizing the troops I said, “OK, boys come get these bookcases. They are super heavy.” The look I got from Anistyn bolted me into the 21st Century. She and a couple of the other girls immediately hoisted a bookcase and descended the stairs! My apologies to the women in the group.

It takes a village to make Life Good and Life is Good in this village! Hope everyone is looking forward to the 2025 Museum Opening on the Saturday before Memorial Day. There will be some changes!
