Malad Valley Community Chorus celebrates 50 years!

Maggie Lund and Ralph Bennett represent both the tradition of the Community Chorus, as well as some of the new energy that will help it move forward.

With their spring concert on Sunday, April 27, 2025, the Malad Valley Community Chorus celebrated 50 years of performing. Under the direction of Ralph Bennett with Maggie Lund as accompanist, the Chorus sang a variety of songs from popular musicals as well as religious and patriotic numbers.

After a rousing opening of “God Bless America,” the chorus sang John Rutter’s arrangement of “All Things Bright and Beautiful.” Songs from “The Sound of Music,” “South Pacific,” “Phantom of the Opera,” the Disney version of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” and “Les Miserables” were enjoyed by the audience. The sopranos and altos sang “God Help the Outcasts,” and the tenors and basses sang “Bring Him Home.”

Lamona Bennett added her violin accompaniment to a medley of “Simple Gifts” and “Pachebel’s Canon.”  Kamryn Bennett accompanied “I Need Thee Every Hour” and a choral montage called “I Would Follow Thee” on the cello. A new number sung by the Chorus was “Because He Lives, Amen.”

As is traditional at the Community Chorus Spring program, the concert concluded with the Malotte arrangement of “The Lord’s Prayer.”

Partway through the program, Chorus President Louis Dredge thanked Ralph Bennett for his conducting the chorus through most of the last 50 years. After mentioning past accompanists Myra Jean John and Helen Ward, Louis thanked Maggie Lund for continuing the tradition of excellent accompanists.  On behalf of the Chorus. Louis presented Ralph and Maggie with gifts of appreciation.
