Museum donations come from many sources

The Oneida County Pioneer Museum is a fantastic repository of local items, artifacts, and documents. Many of them have come from residents of the area who would like to see legacy family heirlooms preserved and available for others to enjoy. Sometimes, they come from distant places when someone finds they have a connection to the area and are motivated to find a fitting location for it.
Of course there are other times when people simply have “old things” that they want to get rid of. And in that case, Museum Director Jean Thomas generally has to tell them that the museum is not the appropriate location for their item unless it has provenance that can be tied to Oneida County.
In the case of a recent donation from Deloris Stuart and her daughter Nancy Bailey, the provenance is clear. Deloris and her brother Daniel lived in Malad and Pleasantview before Daniel served in Korean War, which is what the donated materials are associated with.
In addition to serving in the war, Daniel was a ROTC instructor for many years.
The medal will find a good home in the museum, and be available for public view.
