-How are you at taking advice?  Usually when we need it the most, we aren’t very receptive. Taking advice is so much harder than dishing it out. Finding the situation when advice given and advice accepted meet in a win/win moment doesn’t happen very often, but such was the case for friend Max Firth.

Max had just begun his duties as the Bishop of his ward, when he was asked to perform a wedding.  The wedding was for a couple who were in their mid-seventies.  It was a second marriage for both and Max was a little nervous.  This was new for him, and he wanted to do it right.

He was at the church one evening reading through the handbook on performing marriages, when Bishop Rex Daniels walked in.  Now, those of you who remember Rex know he was pretty laid back.  Not much worried him.  He had a lot of experience with the handbook, performing marriages and just helping people out.  After learning what was worrying Max, Rex says, “I’ve got a little advice if you’d like me to share it.”

Max nodded in the affirmative.

“When you get to that part about ‘multiplying and replenishing the earth,’ skip it.”

Advice given.  Advice received.  And a new bishop put at ease.  That’s the Good Life!
