Veterans book launch set for Veterans Day

The much-anticipated “Oneida County Idaho Military Veterans Book” will be ready for distribution on Veterans’ Day on Saturday, November 11, 2023.  Delays in finding a printer capable of producing this 400-page, full-color book were finally resolved when Kay and Gene Caldwell and Brent Bowen contracted with Tueller Press in Centerville, Utah.

Everyone involved in the production of the book has put in countless hours tracking down names and pictures, designing the layout, and working behind the scenes on the production of this impressive historical record.  Brent Bowen has colorized hundreds of images of Oneida County Veterans, restoring, and improving the original pictures, which were not always in the best of shape.

The project began with the hope of adding to the previously published Veterans book.  This edition greatly expands on the number of individuals included, as well as the quality of the visual record.

The celebration will be on the main floor of the American Legion Building from 2 – 4 p.m. with a short introductory program at 2:15 p.m. The books will be available for sale and for pick up by those who have pre-ordered them.  Everyone is invited to come and look at the book at the celebration event.

The book includes as many of Oneida County’s 1800 veterans as could be located through family and friends. Beginning with James Peter Jensen, a veteran of the Spanish-American War, and continuing through the veterans of the War on Terrorism, the book honors those from Oneida County who have served our country.

If you would like to reserve a copy prior to the celebration, please contact Kay or Gene Caldwell at [email protected] or 208-766-4014.  The cost of the book is $105 and can be paid by check or cash.  No credit cards, please.
