Boyd Clair Hess

Boyd Clair Hess, a husband, father, grandpa, grandpa-great, and friend, passed away on August 7, 2023, at 72. Born on June 25, 1951, Boyd's journey through life was one of compassion, dedication, and a deep-rooted love for his family and community.

Boyd's upbringing in St. John, Idaho, instilled in him the values of hard work. On November 21, 1977, he united in marriage with his wife, Sharon. Together, they shared a life filled with laughter and unwavering support for one another. Their journey led them to their home in Malad, where they built a life rich in love and shared experiences.

His strong work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident from an early age, traits that would shape his career that he loved. Boyd served as the head miller for Idaho Milling and Grain, a role in which he not only demonstrated his expertise but also left a mark on the industry and his colleagues.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Boyd was a member of the Search and Rescue, and a reserve officer for the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, exemplifying his dedication to the well-being of his community.

Boyd enjoyed the great outdoors, whether it was hunting trips with friends, or basking in the beauty of nature. Equally at home, Boyd's curiosity led him to embrace the ever-changing landscape of innovation and technology.

A cup of coffee shared with friends held a special place in Boyd's heart, fostering moments of laughter, camaraderie, and cherished memories. He loved a captivating TV series, savoring the art of storytelling. Boyd's insatiable curiosity led him to a lifelong love of learning and an appreciation for history. He delighted in sharing a good meal and great conversations with the ones he loved.

Boyd leaves behind a legacy of integrity, kindness, and love for those around him. As we mourn his passing, let us also celebrate the remarkable journey he embarked upon and the lives he touched along the way.

Boyd's greatest treasure was his family. He was a loving husband, a guiding father, and a dependable friend. He is survived by his devoted wife, Sharon Hess, who stood by his side through every moment of their remarkable journey, as well as his loving siblings: Bob, Don, Julene, and Sally. Boyd's memory will forever be carried in the hearts of his children and their spouses: Patricia and Stan, Bryon and Margie, Sunshine, Melanie and Mike, and Logan and Amber. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Aashlie, Andrew, Brandon, Chloe, Clark, Jeremy, Jessica, Kacey, Kadden, Kara, Kori, Megan, Rachael, Samuel, Sarah, and Travis, as well as his great-grandchildren: Elaine, Evelyn, Skyla, and Westley.

Boyd is preceded in death by his parents, Alta and Herbert Hess, his daughter, Lindsay, and his brothers and sisters, Ruth, LaVona, Ron, and Herb.

A viewing was held on August 14th, 7:00-8:00 P.M., and a memorial on August 15th at 12:00 P.M .at Horsley Funeral Homes, where family and friends gathered to celebrate Boyd's remarkable life and bid him a heartfelt farewell.
