Employee of the Month—Karlie Lewis

At the monthly meeting of the Oneida School Board, Karlie Lewis was named the Oneida School District “Employee of the Month.” Karlie moved to Malad four years ago with her husband Chesley and family. She has taught for the Idaho Home Learning Academy for three years, beginning as a K-8 teacher and then transitioning to the IHLA high school as an English teacher. This year she was the coordinator for the senior project panels for over 90 virtual students and serves as a student adviser.

The following are excerpts from the letter written by Rachel Jensen, Principal of IHLA High School, to support Karlie’s nomination:

“Karlie’s work ethic, dedication, and teaching skills have greatly benefited Idaho Home Learning Academy and our students. Her influence on students, her department, and IHLA High School as a whole has been so very valuable.

“Her superb ability to use technology and excellent teaching skills have quickly made her a valuable teacher in our school.  Karlie is always willing to take the time to meet with students and support them in their learning process.

“Karlie is never deterred from learning to navigate the many programs available to her and to her students in the online environment.  She excels at building relationships with students, setting high expectations, and working tirelessly to support them. She has spent countless hours above and beyond what was expected of her to provide extra support to her students and to our school . . . Karlie serves as a model to other teachers in our school with her dedication to her students and our entire virtual program.”

Karlie received a gift card, a copy of the “Starfish” poem, and a plaque that will hang in the District Office for the next month.
