Tumble Opens for Business

Local entrepreneur Steve Atkinson is proud to bring a business to Malad City that will serve a need that has been unmet for a number of years.  Tumble Self-Serve Laundry will be opening this week at 94 Bannock street, next to IRG.  The facility is a full-service laundromat, which will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. during the week.  The laundromat has a full range of washers and dryers, from the standard consumer size, to extra large machines which are capable of handling horse blankets and other oversized items.

“I love technology, and I wanted the best machines we could get, with all the bells and whistles,” Atkinson said.  Some of those bell and whistles include full app support for the machines.  After downloading the app, customers can use it to pay for their machines, as well as monitor the availability and status of them within the store.  While doing errands around town, patrons will be able to see how much time is left on their washers and dryers, and plan their trips around it.

For those who would rather not use the app itself, the laundromat also features an on- site payment kiosk, which accepts cards of all types.  The washers and dryers, which are current model SpeedQueen machines, can handle wash cycles in around 22 minutes.  The facilities are clean, new, and ready to go.

“I started thinking about this a while ago while my family and I were on vacation in Yellowstone.  We all ended up getting food poisoning, and ended up spending some time at a laundromat.  I realized, hey—these can be pretty nice.  It was a nice environment that really helped with a need we had, and I thought about bringing it here.”

While Malad has had laundry facilities in the past, the reliability hasn’t always been consistent, and for the last several years, there have not really been any options for public laundry facilities.  Atkinson is devoted to keeping the new facility up to date and clean for patrons.  Everything inside is brand new, and his location next door puts him in a perfect position to monitor the upkeep and management of Tumble.

Tumble is providing a credit to new users who sign up for the app, which can be used at the laundromat as soon as the computer systems are fully online, which should be by the end of the week.

Tumble currently offers five large washers, about twice the size of standard home washing machines, two extra large machines, which can handle king comforters, and one super large machine, which can handle a king comforter and four pillows, as well as other large items.  The dryers are similar in capacity.

“I’m excited to see how it goes,” Atkinson said.  “I think it’s something we can use here in Malad.”
