Art at the Welsh Festival

Art is becoming a big part of the Malad Valley Welsh Festival, to be held this year on June 24-25.  Malad Valley has an amazing number of artists, and the Festival is an opportunity for them to display their works and for the public to view outstanding art by youth and adults.

Whether or not one has been to Wales, everyone will enjoy taking a “Walk Through Wales,” which will be on display in the 2nd Ward cultural hall throughout the Festival.  Enlarged photographs of landscapes, castles, and churches of Wales, all taken by local travelers to Wales, will make viewers think they are in Wales.

The Oxford Peak Arts Council will sponsor their “Art on Main” on Friday, June 24. Local artists will display and sell their art along Main Street in downtown Malad from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m.

The Malad Quilters will host their annual quilt show and bake sale on both days of the Festival in the Co-op Building. Beautiful quilts, wall hangings and other handmade items will be on display, giving visitors the opportunity to vote on their favorites.  Homemade baked goods will also be on sale at the Quilt Show.

Malad students have been busy creating art for the Youth Art Competition, under the guidance of their classroom and art teachers. Over 200 works of art by student artists have recently been judged by Marla Dredge, Josie Alder and Cory Webster. Winning art will be displayed in the 2nd Ward building during the Festival.

Kids will have the opportunity to create their own works of art at the Festival by visiting the Malad After-School Program booth on Friday.  Making dragons, coloring pictures of castles and knights and participating in other craft and art projects will be some of the free activities for kids at the Festival.

The art events and activities at the Festival are partially funded by the Bistline Family Foundation, the Rocky Mountain Power Foundation and the Idaho Commission on the Arts.
