Spotlight on the Arts

Student artists will display their works at the 9th annual Evening of the Arts on Thursday, April 14, from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. at the Events Center at the Fairgrounds.  Parents, friends and community members are all invited to see the talents of our local students at this free event.

The adult art students of accomplished watercolor artist Dianne Adams will display their works of art.  Kathy Williams, Helen Scott, Cassidy Bennett, Addison Ashby, Leif Ashby, Adi Schow and Sabrina Nipko have been taking lessons from Dianne and will display what they have learned at the Evening of the Arts.

Malad Elementary School students have been working very hard on their art projects. The 4th and 5th graders will display their works of arts, most of which will have a spring theme, especially cherry blossoms. Teachers Kallie Blaisdell, Jordan Hawkes Cook, Lindsay Waldron, Cinniman Allen and Jean Schwartz have channeled the energy of their students into creating works of art.

The art works of Malad Middle and High School art students have been created under the direction of Krystal Tavoian Fonnesbeck, the art instructor.  A variety of media have been used by these students on their unique works of art.

The Malad High School culinary arts students of Shantel Tavoian will provide various flavors and colors of popcorn as grab-and-go refreshments.

The Malad High School Chamber Choir, under the direction of Foster Garrett, will provide a short musical program at the event.

Other artists whose works will be featured at the Evening of the Arts are Annie Brower (resin-based art), Cody Brower (aluminum anthill sculpture), Bob Crowther (photography), Lois, Rosemary and Don Lee Hess (oil painting), Linda Lundquist (oil painting) and Tony McClain (taxidermy).

Doug Adams has again donated one of his unique bells to be raffled off as part of the fundraising purpose of the Evening of the Arts. The bell can be seen in the lobby of the hospital, and tickets can be purchased at the front desk of the hospital or from any Hospital Foundation Board member.  Tickets may also be purchased at the event.  You do not have to be present to win.

Baskets of practical, beautiful and unique gifts donated by local businesses, gift cards for local restaurants, overnight stays at Hotel Malad and Island Park, tickets to theater productions, a hand-crafted fire pit, and works of art are among the items to be raffled in live and silent auctions during the evening.  Everyone is invited to come and bid on gifts for themselves or others.

The Evening of the Arts is the major fundraiser for the Nell J. Redfield Hospital Foundation.  All proceeds from the event will go to upgrading patient rooms in the hospital.
