Often, those who spent their formative years in Malad end up elsewhere, and the only things heard about them come through word of mouth from family and friends.  The Enterprise would like to become a bigger voice in bringing some of the stories of former Maladites back home.  In this case, three members of the Oneida county community were recently involved in an exciting event on the national business scene.  

Boise-headquartered Clearwater Analytics, founded in 2004 and currently with 1,400 employees and counting in seven different countries, is among one of the many tech companies that had an IPO (Initial Public Offering) in 2021, and a successful one at that. Clearwater provides software as a service (SaaS) that helps companies perform investment accounting, allowing them to easily generate reports, manage their investment data, and comply with increasing financial regulations. Clearwater’s more than 1,000 clients include leading insurers, asset managers, corporations, pension plans, governments, and nonprofit organizations. The company has enjoyed solid growth year over year since its founding and debuted on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) on September 24, 2021, with its stock trading under the ticker symbol “CWAN.”

Three natives of Malad City have contributed to Clearwater’s success, including its recent IPO. Two of them are sisters, Sara John and Emily (John) Erickson, who were in New York City for the company’s IPO celebrations, including the ceremonious ringing of The Opening Bell® of the NYSE. Sara, as one of the company’s marketing managers, played a major role managing all of the company’s many IPO-related events and complex logistics associated with them. Sara has worked at Clearwater for nearly five years and has been one of the most dedicated and impactful team members not just within the Marketing team, but for the company as whole. She leads marketing campaigns and has an incredibly sharp attention to detail that has enabled her to successfully lead numerous key client events, including the company’s annual user conference that has hosted more than 300 people in Boise most years. After graduating from Malad High School, Sara earned both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Idaho State University. She lives in Boise and in her free time is an active community volunteer and a dedicated practitioner and instructor of yoga.

Sara’s sister Emily is not on the Clearwater payroll, but she is just as dedicated to the company and “bleeds Clearwater blue” along with her husband Scott Erickson, who is one of Clearwater’s executive team members and joined the company as one of its early employees. Scott currently serves as President, Americas and New Markets and especially with the demands of his job, Emily has been by his side since they were married in 2001 and she shares his love of travel and adventure. Emily graduated from Boise State University in 2001 with a degree in English and an emphasis in secondary education and currently spends a lot of her time volunteering at her children’s school and in her community.   Emily and Scott have four wonderful children – Anna (18), Cecilia (15), Lilly (12), John (9) – and live in Garden Valley, ID. Needless to say, Sara is also a doting aunt to Emily and Scott’s children.

With a limited number of people present due to Covid restrictions, Tyrell Hubbard wasn’t able to attend the IPO events in New York City, but his contributions as one of the leaders in Clearwater’s large Operations function are many. Tyrell graduated from Malad High School and, after missionary service in Florida, earned his bachelor’s degree from Utah State. He started his Clearwater career in January 2018 and has spent all four years in the Data department but has taken on additional responsibilities directly supporting implementations on two separate occasions.  He is currently a Division Lead in Data Operations where his many responsibilities include leading, mentoring, retaining, and hiring a large team that’s critical to Clearwater’s service to its clients. Earlier this week, he officially became the first Clearwater employee to earn a Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt certification through Clearwater’s LSS program.  Tyrell’s direct manager Jonny Dittmer says, “Tyrell is a consummate leader whose talents exceed his years and he quickly ascended into management. People just love to work with him and for him.  Additionally, Tyrell is exceptional in his personal execution.”

Tyrell lives in Kuna with his very loving and supportive wife, Beth, and two young girls, Willow and Harper.  He is currently earning his MBA from the University of Utah.  In his spare time, he loves to archery hunt and has been equally successful in this hobby, harvesting an elk in three consecutive years.  

As is clear from these examples, the Malad valley serves as an excellent foundation for success.  Many people with roots here remain in the county and in the area, and contribute to the fundamental strength of the area in countless ways.  Others roam a bit farther afield, and take with them the strong values of determination, commitment, and dedication to community with them wherever they go.  As in the case of Clearwater Analytics, companies throughout the country and the world benefit from the involvement of people like Sarah, Emily, and Tyrell.
