17 members of the Malad High School Student Council traveled to Utah State University in Logan, Utah for a three-day leadership conference held from June 14 to 16.

Malad High School student council members have been attending the Utah State University Leadership Conference (USULC) for many years and bringing what they learn back to Malad. This year, USULC was once again a great way for students to get ideas for the upcoming school year. They learned how to promote student involvement and school unity at school events. Leadership and personal development workshops provided students with information to help make the upcoming school year as great as possible.

This event is filled with activities that help council members bond and learn how to work together. A dance battle between high school student councils across Utah and Idaho is said to be a favorite of attendees. The students love joining into the Dance Battle, as well as the Spirit Bowl, events which they have brought back and implemented at Malad High School. This year, council members had the opportunity to go kayaking and paddle-boarding during the conference as well.

During the conference, students are also given the chance to learn from Utah State University Alumni, ambassadors, and current student leadership. They attended lectures from USU Alumni throughout the conference to help them learn leadership and personal skills. USU student council members ran ropes courses that help build communication and teamwork skills. Malad’s Student Council got to learn and connect with USU student leaders, along with other high school student leaders throughout the conference.

After attending the conference, the students say they are even more excited to lead Malad High School during the upcoming school year and are looking forward to planning events to make the next year amazing.
