Malad Middle School and High School held a series of musical performances in celebration of the Christmas season, including performances by a number of bands and choirs from each school.  The “Welcome to Christmas” concert was held on December 9th, with the Middle School sections at 6, and the High School at 7pm.

Under the director of Foster Garrett, the program contained a number of familiar and less often heard numbers.  The 6th grade choir performed “Sleep, Gently, Sleep” and “How Far it is to Bethlehem.”  The 7th grade choir performed “El Burrito Sabanero” and “The Prayer.”

The Beginning Band played “Jingle Bells” and the “1st Christmas Suite.”  The Intermediate Band performed a rousing rendition of “Three Kings and All That Jazz” and “Sounds of Holiday Cheer.”  Isaiah Bingham performed a solo.

After an intermission to change over to the High School portion of the program, and a Silent Auction of baskets donated to the event, the High School Band performed “We Wish You a Klezmer Christmas” and “Nightmare Before Christmas,” with Jennie McClain joining in on the timpani.  Savanna Young performed a clarinet solo.  The High School Choir sang “Hodi, Veni, Christe,” “Believe,” and “Carol of the Bells.

The Chamber Choir performed “Still Still, Still,” “Dingo Dong Merrily on High,” “Beautiful December,” and the Nigerian Christmas Carol “Betehemu,” featuring percussionists Bryce Casslemn, Clara Huckaby, and Conner Worrell.

The High School Choir, Chamber Choir, and High School band joined together to perform “A-Caroling at Christmas.”
