This week’s featured player is senior offensive lineman Brooks Bowman.
Brooks gives everything he has when he steps onto the field for the Dragons, and excels in the weight room and works hard on the practice field. He also is the guy to bring the best out of his teammates.
Head coach Coda Tchida said, “Brooks is a great team player. He works so hard and gives us all he has day in and day out. He helps us a lot in the running game with his great blocking and also helps protect our quarterback. We need Brooks to step up and play great and he has done that every game this season.”
Coming off of another tough loss to district opponent Soda Springs, the Dragons find themselves yet again in a must-win game tonight in Aberdeen. Brooks noted that this is do or die for the Dragons team and potentially the last time the 10 seniors will be on a football field together. “We have to go out and play a perfect game tonight in Aberdeen if we want to continue playing this year. We have to play defense like we played against Soda and our offense will keep performing at a high level. I know we can go far in the playoffs if we get there, so this is a must-win game for us,” Bowman said.
The Dragons find themselves in a similar predicament as the previous two years. For the third straight year they have lost their first two district games and needed to win their third game to vie for a playoff spot out of the tough 2A southeastern district. It all starts with a win tonight in Aberdeen. “Beating Aberdeen gives us a shot at making the playoffs. If we go out and do our jobs, I know we can make the playoffs and go deep into the playoffs,” Brooks continued.
The Dragons can make the playoffs in two scenarios, but both start with a win
tonight in Aberdeen. With a Dragons win and a loss by Soda Springs in West Side, Aberdeen, Malad and Soda will all have records of 1-2 and will fight it out for the remaining two playoff spots in a Kansas City tie-breaker like the past two seasons. However, if Malad wins and Soda beats West Side, Aberdeen is out and Malad is in as the third place team in the district.
“We need to go out and control our own destiny and get a win against Aberdeen and not worry about what happens in the West Side versus Soda game. We need to step up and take care of business and everything else will fall into place,” Bowman finished.
Malad heads to Aberdeen for the last regular season game of the year for the 2013 Dragons. So get on your Malad gear and get over to Aberdeen and cheer on Brooks and the Dragons when they kickoff tonight at 7:00 p.m.
