MHS Wrestling Ends Regular Season on Amazing Undefeated Night
The Dragon wrestling team ended their regular season in an incredible way as they faced off against the Wendell Trojans in Rafter River for their final duel matchup on Friday, February 9. Going head to head in 12 matches, the Dragons went undefeated throughout the night, winning every bout, going 80-0.
At 120, senior Tommy Angell started off the Dragon domination as won by a pin in 3:23. Parker Price at 126 won by decision going 15-10 in the six minute bout. In the 132 matchup, Alex Marshall won by forfeit. Next, at 138 weight, Drake Morrison won with a pin in just 1:24. Oakley Maddox, pulled out a win at 145 weight with another pin in the first period for the Dragons at 1:57. Gabe Hooste with a technical fall as he put up 16-1 in 5:34 in the 152 match.
At 160, Cam Bingham won by points as he tallied up 13 points to 6. Hunter Wray put down another pin for the Dragons at weight 160 in the second period, timed at 2:52. Moving into the 182 match, Lex Driskel followed suit with a second period pin at 2:39. Blaiz Wright, wrestling at 195, won by decision as he went 5-1. Waylon Hill won by forfeit at 220. Rounding out the wins for Malad was senior Caleb Mathews at 285, putting down the fastest pin of the night as he won in 44 seconds.
With the final duel under their belts, the Malad wrestlers tallied up an impressive season duel record as they went 28-1. The Dragons are ready and hungry to take on their opponents as they compete in the upcoming District and State tournaments. Head Coach Devin Morrison shared, “We have had a great season with a lot to be proud of. Now it is time to finish strong.”
The district tournament will be hosted by Bear Lake on Wednesday, February 14th with wrestling beginning at 10am.
