January Quilt Guild Meeting

Feb 15, 2024 09:51AM ● By Kristy King Zahn

Shara Olson and Audrey Jaussi from last January, showing off one of Jaussi’s creations.

Sharon Harris taught a class for the block of the month which was a half square triangle.

The February block of the month will be a Forest Block (tree), taught by Debra Clark.  I will also send them out a week before the February meeting.

Jean Thomas contacted the guild about finding art quilts for display at the Evening of the Arts on April 4th.  If you have anything that fits this description, please send a photo to Brenda Daniels.

Brenda has cataloged the Guild’s quilting templates.  They are in the closet and available for checkout.

The guild will be hosting a UFO challenge for 2024.  Pick up a form at the next meeting and write your list of UFOs (unfinished objects) for the year. Have either Brenda or Esther take a picture of your form. Then as you finish your projects, they need to be brought to the guild for show and tell to be eligible for the drawing.  There will be a drawing each month for a small prize.

Our club will only be doing hot lunch during the months of February, March, October, and November.  For April, May, June, July, and September we will bring a sack lunch from home.

Cindy showed us the designs for the 2024 Friendship quilts.  There will be two quilts with a total of 28 blocks between the two.  You will purchase a kit for $5 and blocks will be due in May.

The first quilt is plants, made from half square triangles. You will be provided with the pot and the background, and you just need to provide a solid or low volume true green fabric (no aqua) for the plant parts.

The second quilt will be houses.  The only matching fabric in each of the squares will be the chimney.  You will have a choice of the fabrics you use for the houses, but they will need to be certain colors, depending on which house you choose.

Notes from Show & Tell—Our quilters have been very busy this winter!

We had show and tell items from:

Brenda Daniels, Debra Clark, Mary Ellen Knudsen, Audrey Jaussi, Tracy Drury, Rosie Silvester, Debbie Schoolcraft, Shara Olson, Bonnie Howard, Cindy Gevas, and Jean Lucht

Tammy Benson presented different options for tying quilts.  We will be practicing a new knot each month on a charity quilt that is set up for us to tie.  Tammy reminded us that tying is not meant for heirloom quilts. It is intended for quilts that will be used more and washed a lot.
