Aberdeen Tournament

“Our kids are always up for a challenge. We keep putting them against tough competition and they are only getting better with every match.”

Friday and Saturday the Dragons wrestled at the Aberdeen Tournament. The tournament hosted 21 teams with teams from both Idaho and Utah. The Malad wrestlers dominated the team scores winning with an impressive 280.5 points, 91.5 points ahead of the Ririe Bulldogs who took 2nd. Bringing home 12 individual medals with 4 champions, every one of the Dragons helped contribute to the team’s success.

In the 98lb bracket Jack Willie beat a tough Preston wrestler, Porter Campbell, on his way to the finals where he beat West Sides Michael Robert’s by tech fall 16-1 to become the first champion of the tournament.

Two Dragons brought home medals in the 113lb weight class. Porter Mills went 5-2 in the tough bracket winning his 5/6 place match 2-0 earning the 5th place medal. Jace Potter pinned his way to the finals where he upset the 2A #1 seed, Ririe’s Breylon Moon beating him by pin in the 1st round.

Results were Bentley Oglesbee 1st place at 100 lbs.  Braylee Price 1st place at 105 lbs.  Bella McCullogh 3rd place at 115 lbs.  Dezirae Haven 1st place at 120 lbs.  Rylee Neilson 1st place at 125 lbs.  Aubrey Schulz 3rd place at 130 lbs.  Cale Carter 1st place at 155 lbs.  Bella Smith 1st place at 235 lbs.  Evvie Williams and Aaliyah Hobson both wrestled hard but fell short of making the podium.  The coaches were all proud of how the girls wrestled this weekend and the hard work that they have all been putting in in the practice room.  The team will be traveling to West Side on Jan 24th for a dual with the Pirates.  Then on Jan 26-27th the team will be traveling to Burley to attend the Big Mountain Girls tournament.
