Cheer Cupids Challenge

The MHS Cheerleaders at the Cupids Cheer Challenge at Pocatello High School

The Malad High School Cheerleaders attended the Cupids Cheer Challenge held at Pocatello High School on Saturday, January 20th where they had a very successful competition.  Also competing at the challenge across multiple divisions were teams from various 1A and 2A schools Cascade, Soda Springs, Bear Lake, Aberdeen, Oakley and Declo.

The MHS cheer team competed in the Cherubs Division, placing first in Pom and first in the All-Girl Stunt Group routines.  Malad’s Stunt Group members included Taylor Cowdin, Isabella Bowen, Myriam Teeples, Ayla Coleman and Delanie Walton.  Alongside their first place wins, the Malad Cheer team also placed 3rd Overall with their Pom routine as they competed against every team.

The weekend’s success is a great accomplishment and practice for the MHS team as they prepare to compete next weekend in Preston and then again, in their district competitions against Soda Springs, Aberdeen and Bear Lake.  Cheer Coach Jennifer Hill spoke of her team, saying, “The Team has definitely had their share of challenges and adversity this year and they have pushed through it to be where they are at. We’ve lost Team members for reasons beyond our control, that has left our Team a little smaller than normal.

“We have a young Team of Freshmen and Sophomores left to lead their Team and Crowd.  But these Girls have pushed through all of these challenges and adversity and they are doing something great with their Team. Not only have they worked hard at games to cheer on the Dragon teams but they have also worked really hard to be ready with perfect routines to help make up for the age and size of our Team in comparison to everyone else in our District.

“I couldn’t be more proud of these Girls for overcoming their fears, for their determination, and their hard work at every practice. The next couple weeks will be tough and will determine who the top teams will be to advance to State in each division so we’ve got a lot of work ahead of us to be ready.”

The Malad Cheer Team is composed of Taylor Cowdin, Isabella Profaizer, Destiny Brees, Rebecca McCrackin, Delanie Walton, Myriam Teeples and Ayla Coleman. They are coached by Jennifer Hill, assisted by Coach Abrielle Goddard and some great help from Samantha Jensen.
