Conservation District Poster Contest

Karmyn Charles, Isaac Bird, and Zaira Hamilton won the poster contest.

The Oneida Soil & Water Conservation District challenged the 5th grade students at Malad Elementary with a poster contest recently. This contest used to be a yearly tradition, but was discontinued for a few years due to Covid and change of staff.

The theme was chosen from the National Association of Conservation Districts guidelines for 2023 titled “One Water.” These students, with the help of their teachers, went above and beyond when creating the posters. They researched all aspects of water and everything it affects in our environment. There were mountains, fish, trees, people, and plants among the many drawings created by approximately 70 students.

The posters were then judged by the Board of Supervisors for Oneida SWCD and three winners were chosen. First place was won by Zaira Hamilton and she received a check for $50. Second place was won by Isaac Bird and he received a check for $30. Third place was won by Karmyn Charles and she received a check for $20.
