MMS Wrestling Season ends

Just as soon as it began, the Malad Middle School has wrapped up their 2023 season.  The Knights wrestling team had a great season this year, coached by Allen Edwards, Josh Davis and Thomas Maddox.

Debuting for the first time in MMS wrestling history, was an official girls wrestling team.  Most of the lady wrestlers had not wrestled before this year, but they were quick to pick up the sport and even quicker to use their new knowledge on the mats. Ending the season on a high, the Malad girls team took first at the district tournament last weekend. The Lady Knights tallied up district champion and 4 district runner ups.  Katy Carter took 1st, Aleah Seamons, Harley Maddox, Stella Merja and Paysli Chournos all took 2nd place.

Commenting on their season, the Knight’s wrestling coaches shared, “It is such a great thing to see women’s wrestling growing the way it is and Malad is a part of that. The girls we have on our team have worked very hard to learn a sport that is new to them.  They are great teammates and supporters of each other.”

The MMS Knight wrestlers had a strong show at district tournament as well, finishing the tournament with 9 district champions and an impressive total of 20 medalists. The team took 2nd at the district tournament, coming up just a few points behind Soda Springs.

District Champions include Brecken Price, Kallen Price, Krey Keetch, Riggin Montgomery, Wade Clark, Jace Nalder, Mason Ball, Rawzen Munns, and Bronson Smith. Earning a 3rd Place finish was Joe Angell, Brady Ogelsbee, Jaxon Mills, Bastian Miller, Gavin Hooste, and Jaxton Price.  Taking 4th place were Bridger Barnes, Jaxon Purser, David Leckie,

Ira Carter, and Josiah Sarceda.

“These kids showed up to wrestle and do their absolute best at the district tournament,” said the MMS wrestling coaches.  “Everyone of them gave their all and made us incredibly proud. We are grateful to the parents that support the team and help us to make it a fun experience for our wrestlers. We are looking forward to coaching these kids through their wrestling careers.”
