Bill Lewis awarded Silver Beaver Award

Lewis was Was awarded the prestigious Silver Beaver award for leaders.

Bill Lewis was awarded the Boy Scouts of America Silver Beaver award on November 10 at the Boy Scouts 27th Annual Heartfelt Holiday/Auction in Idaho Falls.  The Silver Beaver award was introduced in 1931, and is the highest recognition a local Council can bestow upon volunteer leaders.  This distinguished service award of the Boy Scouts of America is given to registered Scout leaders who have made an impact on the lives of youth through service given to the council.

When asked why he works in scouting, Lewis replied, “I am in scouting today because of Scouting’s impact on my life, starting when I was 11 years old and a Blazer Scout.  I love working with Scouts because I see the changes it makes in the lives of youth.

When asked about his favorite memories of scouting, Lewis stated, “The Mile Swim stands out in my mind.  I was not a good swimmer.  However, after conquering the Swimming Merit Badge, I decided to swim the mile.  Swimming the mile taught me I can do hard things.  I love teaching the youth that they can do hard things too.”

How would he like to be known?  “Bill Lewis is a man who lives life to the fullest and spends his days serving others,” he said.  “Integrity is the compass of his life.”
