City Council election certified; Olsen and Tripp elected

Last week’s City Council elections were the only thing on the ballot, and their certification brings the election year 2023 to an end.  The election for two city council spots was competed for by current councilman Lance Tripp, current councilwoman Jaime Olsen, and newcomer to the race Justin Schwartz.

The official results of the election ended up being close, with Lance Tripp receiving 197 votes, Jaime Olsen receiving 170 votes, and Justin Schwartz receiving 160 votes.  The turnout for the election was relatively low, at around 23% of eligible voters.  While there is no thorough exit polling on the race, anecdotally many people reported that they were happy with all the candidates, which may have led some to skip voting.  The results do indicate, though, that every vote is significant and has the chance to move the election one way or another.

As the two council members who were elected are already serving, there will not be a disruption in continuity of the council, other than Tripp and Olsen possibly changing some of their assignments on the council itself.
