Mayor’s Youth Council Donation Closet and Food Drive

Oct 19, 2023 11:59AM ● By Mathilde Dickerson

Malad City’s Mayor’s Youth Council (MYC) is a student-run organization with a mission statement to provide a voice for the youth of Malad City and to be actively involved in service projects hosted by the community. We have 14 members and three advisors, including Mayor Joan Hawkins.

This year, the Mayor's Youth Council is focusing our efforts into creating a donation closet at Malad High School. The mission statement of the donation closet is to provide a space where students in Oneida County schools can take items that they may not have access to at home, such as food, coats, new bedding, school supplies and so much more. The space is not yet open but we are accepting donations starting Thursday, October 12th.

We are reaching out to the community for donations to get the closet started. Most importantly, we are in need of a means to store our donations, such as shelves, plastic tubs, or portable clothing racks.

Starting Thursday, October 12th, the Mayor's Youth Council will be putting on a food drive for the donation closet. The items we need most are as follows: rice, pasta, canned pasta, canned vegetables or fruits, ramen noodles, snacks, juice boxes, cereal, utensils & cups. All items donated will be sorted through and used for the donation closet. The drop locations will be at Thomas Market, Malad High School, Malad Middle School, and Malad Elementary School. The food drive will end on October 26th, but donations are always welcome.

For more information or any questions regarding the food drive or other donations, please contact Mathilde Dickerson at [email protected] or (208)-589-9652.
