Halloween Night coming to Library on October 18

Elizabeth Kent will be speaking about the origins of folklore.

It’s once again the season when thoughts turn to things of the spookier variety in anticipation of the that hallowed evening that will bring the month to a close.  The nights chill, making the draw of a warm night spent among friends talking about ghosts hard to ignore.

On the moonlit night of October 18, the Oneida County Library will transform into a haunted haven for little goblins and witches alike! Gather 'round for an enchanting storytelling sessions where ghost stories and local folklore will come alive in the flickering candlelight.  Elizabeth Kent will talk about some of the basis for folklore beliefs and may even bring in some Welsh Ghost stories.  She will highlight the early session, starting at 4:30 pm, which will be appropriate for kids under the age of 15.

Bestselling author John Olsen from the Cache Valley will be heading up the Adult Session, which starts at 6:30 pm should only be for ages 15 and older.  Olsen will be discussing anecdotes and research into a number of supernatural sightings and occurrences.  While Olsen’s visits over the last few years for the event have not involved graphic content, some of the subjects for discussion will be most appropriate for those 15 and above.

The library has hosted Halloween night for a number of years, and the event has become a reliable fixture on the calendar for those who love a good dose of the eerie and often the historical.  Elizabeth Kent is a trained folklorist, who received her Folklore degree from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, the heart of the supernatural Celtic world.  Over past years, she has brought her training in the subject and her personal experience into discussions of folklore both here and abroad.

John Olsen is the author of a number of bestselling books on the paranormal in the local area, including “Stranger Bridgerland” and “Stranger Paranormal.”  In the past, he has discussed some of his favorite stories from his vast catalog of reports, incidents, and experiences.  Both speakers are happy to take questions from the audience, and hear the experiences that people have that they can’t explain.  Come to the library for a fun night of scares!
