A Visit to the Fire Station

During Fire Safety month, Malad’s Kindergarten through second grade students visit the Fire station to learn more about how it works, and fire safety in their own lives.  After the walk down to the Firestation, the students were met by members of the Fire Department, who divided them up into groups.

One group heard about all the equipment that the Fire Department uses in the course of its work, including thermal imagers, protective equipment, and various tools.  Another group joined the crew in the bay, where the various trucks were discussed and students were able to test their skills against a training course for moving in the equipment in confined spaces.  The third group got up close and personal with a fully equipped fire truck, and had the chance to use the firehose, which is always a highlight of the tour.

A number of fires this year throughout the valley have emphasized the critical importance of the fire department.  The crew made sure to communicate the importance of preventing and responding to any fire situations that they might experience.  Pictured here are the range of activities participated in.  The image above features the kindergartners lined up in front of the fire truck.
