An Amazing Senior Night Win for the Lady Dragons

By: Karlee Palmer

Last Saturday, September 30th, our Lady Dragons played their last home game of the soccer season against the Aberdeen Tigers. The girls had a great time celebrating the senior players Charli Briscoe and Azure Ashby. No tears were shed at the senior game but Briscoe says she could definitely feel the unity and excitement during the game. “It's sad, but it was a good game to end on.” Ashby said, “I honestly don’t even feel like a senior. I just feel like we played another game as a team, and it was really fun and we had a great time.”

Not only did these girls have a fun time on the field but they also were able to enjoy a win against the Aberdeen Tigers! But it wasn't as easy as their 8-0 score makes it seem. Freshman, Halie Palmer said, “The first half was absolute garbage, but as soon as Liv scored in the last five minutes of the first half we went into the second half like, ‘Oh yeah, what are we doing?! We can do this! We can totally beat them!’” She goes on to say that freshman, Kaycee Venable’s goal was the one to put the rest of the goals in motion.

Coach Shenell Clark encouraged Venable to put more effort and power into her kicks, and when she did it resulted in an amazing goal. “Finally I just decided to send it, even though I thought it would go over the goal. I didn’t think it was going to make it, and it actually made it!”, Venable said. Palmer elaborated on Venable’s goal, “We all thought it was going to go way over, but it just went right over the goalie's hands.” Venable continues to say that the team came out to support her on the field with a group hug and lots of cheering. After that positive note, the team made goal after goal.

Two of which were made by junior, Kencie Miller. She made both goals in the second half as a sweeper. She dribbled through the defense and made the goals with ease. She says, “It feels good to have two goals in one game but I wish I could’ve made three.”

Another notable goal was from sophomore goalie, Aubrey Shulz. When she was finally able to play out of the goalie box and on the field, she made the whole team proud. Her scoring a goal for her team sent the Dragon fans into a roaring cheer! The Malad High Soccer team are all very proud of one another with the efforts and attitudes they have put in this season. “I’m really proud of our whole team and the attitude we had throughout the whole game. In the first half, we went out a little cocky and it kind of showed in how we played. In the second half, we came out with more confidence and played more like a team.” says junior Mikiya Shulz

We as a Dragon community love to see the girls working so hard this season and are so excited to see them play in districts in the coming week and hopefully on to state. Briscoe was quoted saying, “Our hardest competition is definitely Marsh Valley, but if we work together as a team and we pass and try our hardest and give 100%, I think we have a good chance at beating them…If we just keep it up and work together as a team and have a positive attitude, then we can keep it up for the second half and beat them.” Let's go Malad Dragons! Districts start Tuesday, October 3rd in Marsh Valley.

On Friday the twenty-ninth the football team played the Aberdeen Tigers. Junior, Brady Showell, said, “We felt good. We played well as a team and that was our best offense all year.” Aberdeen Tigers had a great offense that our defense couldn’t hold. Varsity fought well but the end score was 42-30.

The JV team won their game 28-8. Sophomore, Zac Reiss, said, “It was good. We did better than last week. They beat us last year so it felt good to win.” Offense and defense both played well.
